Topic: Osprey: An Ecosystem Barometer

Featuring: Bob Goodman

As the effects of the widespread use of DDT/DDE became known, the Osprey was selected for intense study as it is at the top of the aquatic food chain. You could say that Bob Goodman was in the right place at the right time to help this unique species. During the study, Bob was living in northern Idaho, had a boat, and an interest in the project. Covering the Coeur d'alene, St. Joe, and Spokane Rivers where many osprey nests became accessible, Bob was able to photograph the phases of the bird's life cycle, banding procedures, early research into its migration routes, and very early use of artificial platforms for nesting. Their life cycle is the same as the birds we see here in Nevada and eastern California. Bob will share photos and insights from his time working on this exciting project.
