Leader: Lauren Whitenack (lauren.whitenack@nevadaaudubon.org) and Jo Ann Cobb

Description: Easy walk, approximately 1 mile on flat ground. We will be walking through some brush, so wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. If you have one, bring a scope (I have one to share)! We will be observing all kinds of waterfowl on the lake, including tundra swans, snow geese, and several duck species. In the vegetation along the lake we may find marsh wrens, sparrows, robins, etc.

About Lauren:

Lauren is a PhD student at the University of Nevada, Reno studying mountain chickadee breeding ecology. She has been interested in birds from the young age of 13, when she began volunteering at the Intermountain Bird Observatory in Boise, ID and was introduced to bird banding and research. She studied Northern Goshawk nest habitat in southeast ID and Golden-winged Warbler macrohabitat associations in Western North Carolina as an undergraduate, and worked as a songbird bander for two seasons after college. She moved to Reno in August 2021 to start graduate school and has treasured getting to know the Reno-Tahoe area through the lens of birding and exploring the outdoors.
