Description
Date/Time: Friday, November 28, 2025 / 9:00 am
Location: Meet at the Pinyon Trailhead near Gardnerville, NV
Leaders: Ned Bohman and Diane Wong-Kone
Description: Opt outside and explore the Pinyon-Juniper woodlands with Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance and Great Basin Bird Observatory. Ned will share information on Pinyon Jay caching behavior and we will be looking for these and other birds along the trail. This habitat offers bird species not commonly seen on our urban park walks, such as the Pinyon Jay, Juniper Titmouse, Townsend's Solitaire, and Mountain Bluebird. We will be collecting data for the Pinyon Jay Community Science Project on this walk and new participants to this project are always welcome! Collecting data on Pinyon Jays while out birding is one way to learn more about the Pinyon Jays and to help determine which habitats are important for this bird's conservation. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots are recommended. The trail follows rolling hills with flat to moderate slopes.
